This is one photo of an excursion to a traditional oil press. If I remember correctly, this was located in the Shephela, the coastal plains of Israel/Palestine.
As I’m sure everyone knows, olives are a miracle fruit, and a huge source of income for the Middle East and Mediterranean countries since the Bronze Age (no, I’m not exaggerating.) This particular machine was made to press those little green guys into delicious, useful, pulpy oil…even if it looks more like a torture device!
